What is Physiotherapy?

As per Ontario’s Ministry of Health and Long Term Care (MOHLTC) – “Physiotherapy is a government regulated health profession. It involves the assessment of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal and cardio-respiratory systems and the diagnosis and treatment of physical dysfunction, injury or pain from a member (aka physiotherapist) registered with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario”.


What tools does a physiotherapist require for a proper and professional assessment and treatment?

Physiotherapist use many techniques and tools to assess you and help you achieve your treatment goals. Some of the tools which are used are:

  • detailed history of the current condition, past medical history;
  • pain levels using Visual Analgue Scale ;
  • measurement of range of motion of affected and associated joints using Goniometer;
  • measurements of muscle strength of affected and associated muscles using Oxford Manual Muscle Testing Scale;
  • postural assessment;
  • ergonomic assessment;
  • neurological assessments to assess mytomes, dermatomes, reflexes, muscle tone, etc;
  • assessment for need of mobility aids;
  • seating assessments;
  • assessment of mobility aids;
  • environnmental assessment to determine need for devices of assisted living such as grab bars in the bathroom, bath seat, bed rails etc.;
  • gait assessment,
  • foot arch assessment using Gait Scan Pressure Sensitive Equipment for accuracy; and many more.

How long will be my therapy session?

You can expect our Licensed Physiotherapist to work with you on our initial assessment session for upto 60 minutes and on treatment sessions for upto 45 minutes.


Is there a difference between the physiotherapy assessment and treatment provided in a clinical setting or at home? What is the difference?

No, there is no difference from the care point of few between the physiotherapy assessment and treatment provided in a clinical setting or at home. However, there are significant advantages of having treatments in-home over the treatment in a clinical setting:

  • reduces the risk of contracting infections in the clinic setting
  • provides you the same quality of care in the comfort of your home, at your time
  • no indirect costs of parking, pick and drop off services costs, fuel costs, etc.
  • 1-on-1 treatment with your therapist with undivided attention
  • no wasting of time while waiting for your treatment
  • no time is wasted on travelling

You can enjoy all these privileges in the comfort of your home at the same costs to you as you would incur in a conventional clinical setting, without any hidden fees.


I have heard only seniors or acute disability patients prefer and obtain physiotherapy at home. Is it true?

No, anyone can access in-home physiotherapy and enjoy the same privileges to be treated in the comfort of your home. At our company, we ensure that we bring these services to all our clients at the same cost (or less) per session as charged in aconventional clinical setting.


Physiotherapy at home is significantly more expensive than obtaining physiotherapy treatment at home. Is it true?

At Steadfast Homecare Physiotherapy, our goal and philosopy is to provide the excellent care and treatment in-home to all our clients, at the same cost (or less) per session as charged in aconventional clinical setting. All our clients receive 1-on-1 assessment and treatment session, with undivided attention of your therapist in the comfort of your home without any extra or hidden charges or fees.


Will I get exercises hand out during or after my Physiotherapy session?

Yes, we believe in providing comprehensive exercise handouts. Our physiotherapists will also explain, demonstrate and perform exercises with you during each session.


Do you perform mobility aid’s and wheelchair’s assessments?

What should I wear for Physiotherapy session?

We recommend you to wear comfortable clothing such as half sleeve shirts and comfortable shorts. You may also wear yoga pants or other comfortable clothing.


Do I need a Doctors referral for my Physiotherapy Treatments?

You do not need a doctor’s referral for a physiotherapy assessment or treatment. However, some extended health insurance companies may require that a doctor’s referral be submitted prior to payment being issued. We recommend that you check with your company before starting your treatment. Please contact our staff @ (647) 349- 5002 for more information. Our staff willbe more than happy to assist you with your enquiries to your insurance company.


How long is the waiting time to start physiotherapy treatments?

We call and book an appointment within 12 hours amd make it our philosophy to see you with in 24 hrs or less. We are very efficient in keeping up with our appointment times, as we value your time.


What are your payment terms?

Payment is made after each assessment or treatment session either by cheque, cash, debit or credit card. We will issue an official receipt after your payment is received.


Is there any cancellation fee?

The cancellation fee of $30 applies if you cancel the session less than 12 hrs before your scheduled appointment by either calling or emailing us. We expect you to give us at least 12 hrs notice before you cancel the therapy session to provide fair services for all our clients.


What your hours of operation?

We accept clients 365 days of the year X 7 days a week. We are available at your comfort, for your comfort.
